Through meticulous exploration and tasting, we have discovered that matcha from Shizuoka captures a delicate aroma that can only be achieved by Honyama tea. Using our own unique method, we grind the tencha grown in our own tea plantation and tencha furnace to create matcha of unparalleled quality. The result is a taste that harmonizes richness and bitterness with the soft and delicate aroma specific to Honyama tea.

Our matcha not only excels when traditionally prepared in a matcha bowl with a bamboo whisk but also serves as an excellent ingredient for cooking and sweets. Its bright color and well-balanced sweetness and bitterness add delightful accents to various culinary creations.

To ensure the utmost quality of our matcha, every batch undergoes rigorous inspections for particle size and color difference at the Food & Drug Laboratory before being shipped. We are committed to providing our customers with matcha that meets the highest standards of excellence.

HISTORY OF HONYAMA

Honyama holds a special place in the history of Japanese tea culture. Approximately 800 years ago, a Japanese monk named Seiichi Kokushi returned from China with tea seeds and planted them in this very area. Ever since, Honyama has flourished as the birthplace of a tea-centered culture in Japan. Similar to other world-renowned tea-growing regions like Darjeeling and Assam, our region in Japan offers the optimal conditions for tea cultivation, including a mountainous location at a high elevation, a significant temperature difference between morning and evening, and the presence of beautiful rivers and fog.

Taking into consideration factors such as taste, aroma, and color Honyama in Shizuoka was carefully selected as the best tea production area in Japan. This recognition holds true not only in present times, as evidenced by the accolades received at the esteemed National Tea Fair, the most prestigious green tea contest in Japan, but also throughout history, when tea from this region was presented to Ieyasu Tokugawa, one of the great figures of the Samurai era.

We ensure that Yōko Matcha is sourced from the most exceptional tea leaves, cultivated in an environment where the essence of matcha truly flourishes.
